Polyalkylene Glycol
Polyalkylene Glycols, used as the base fluid for synthetic gear and bearing lubricants and metalworking fluids are designed to operate over a very wide range of temperatures and conditions. These fluids provide excellent anti-friction, anti-wear, and high load-carrying properties – with an inherently high viscosity index which reduces the change in viscosity over increased temperatures.
A Series
Water soluble PAGS with 1:1 ratio of Ethylene Oxide and Propylene Oxide
W Series
High viscosity Co-polymers of 75% Ethylene Oxide and 25% Propylene Oxide giving water soluble products
P Series
Polyalkylene Glycol of mono initiated Propylene Oxide homo-polymers, used in water in-soluble products where a water free environment is required.
PRB Series
Reversed block copolymer surfactants
Metal Working Fluids
Aqueous solutions of PAGs provide excellent lubricants and heat transfer agents for use in metal cutting and spinning processes. The fluids can be used alone or combined with other water-soluble products, such as amine soaps, amides or phosphate esters. Many PAG fluids are less soluble in hot water than cold, and the this property can be exploited to provide a most effective combined coolant and lubricant.
Textile Fibre Lubricants
PAGs have proven application in almost every stage of textile fiber lubrication. Depending upon the application, fiber type, and yarn structure, the desired level of friction control can be obtained by selecting one, or a combination of grades.
These fluids reduce the change in viscosity with increase in temperature under isothermal conditions:
Low friction losses lead to reduced sump temperatures and high gear efficiencies
High thermal stability, providing extended lubricant lifetime.
Excellent load-carrying properties reduced wear and extended equipment lifetime.
Inherently high viscosity index giving wide temperature operation and faster warm-up.
Viscosity – PAGs provide excellent viscosity index, often above 200. High viscosity index lubricants, such as PAGs, protect better in operations with temperature variations.
Lubricity – PAGs are superior to mineral or refined oils in reducing friction. The outstanding friction-reducing ability keeps wear rate low which helps extended equipment lifetime.
Pour Point – PAGs generally have low pour points, permitting some grades to be used down to -50°C. They are wax-free and not affected by cooling to below their pour points.
Stability – PAGs have enhanced thermal and oxidative stability, which reduces the formation of sludge, corrosion, and deposits.
Solubility – Separation is shown at higher temperatures for the A and W series. This helps to explain their lubricity in water. PAGs are not soluble in mineral oils or hydrocarbon solvents.
